reporta conexión habitual a internet.

ABSTRACT
Digital literacy is defined by the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the set of
fundamental skills for managing new tools, programs and computer networks. It involves seven areas or dimensions that are
media literacy, communication and collaboration, curriculum and identity
management, ICT literacy, learning skills, digital schooling and information
literacy. In Panama we have the
conjecture supported by data from the Ministry of Economy and Finance that
households with low economic resources have less penetration of both
technologies and Internet connectivity; factors that are directly related to
digital literacy in high school students. A quantitative exploratory study was carried
out on students of the Monseñor Francisco Beckmann Educational Center, applying
a survey in digital format and distributed by digital channels among students
of X, XI and XII of Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Commerce. The survey was answered by 138 participants to
whom the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study were applied. The use of mobile devices such as smartphones
stands out in 85% of the participants, 91% report habitual connection to the
Internet. The data collected suggests
that a large number of participants use their devices for leisure and social
networks. More than 90% report the
knowledge and use of the Microsoft Teams and Zoom platforms as digital
educational tools. Among the media, the
use of messaging through social networks and instant messaging stands out, with
a percentage of use greater than 80%. The
data from this study will be used later to develop initiatives that improve the
different dimensions of digital literacy.
