Importancia de establecer un Observatorio de Turismo Sostenible para el desarrollo del turismo en Panamá.

RESUMEN

El turismo se considera una actividad importante para las economías de los países. La información cambia el estado del conocimiento para administrar eficaz y, eficientemente, potenciando mejores resultados en la gestión de la administración y toma de decisiones; es por esto, la importancia de incorporar los observatorios de turismo como herramienta tecnológica para medir y desarrollar mejor los destinos turísticos en una región.

Panamá cuenta con el aval de la OMT desde el 2018, para que se instale el observatorio de turismo sostenible N°24 en la cuidad Capital. Antes del COVID-19, a nivel mundial existían ya en 22 países, que visualizaron ante situaciones menos complejas que una pandemia, la necesidad de manejar información actualizada, precisa y sobre todo confiable producida mediante la herramienta de un observatorio de turismo.

Para lograr este proyecto se necesita la participación del sector público, privado y académico. El estudio de carácter descriptivo indaga qué tan involucrados e informados están estos sectores. La importancia que tiene esta herramienta y si es considerada útil para el desarrollo de nuevos destinos turísticos en Panamá.

Para tal fin, se utilizó el método encuesta virtual aplicada mediante la herramienta de “google drive” por efectos de la pandemia y el confinamiento. Se contó con la participación de 114 personas, entre éstas, del sector educativo a nivel superior docentes y estudiantes, sector público, privado y otros gremios.

Los resultados demuestran que hay un interés significativo por parte de la academia para que este proyecto se lleve a cabo; no obstante, falta mayor participación e interés de los otros actores. Además, de una mejor divulgación de información y concienciación, para dar a conocer el proyecto y su importancia al formar parte de la Red Internacional de Observatorio de Turismo Sostenible INSTO.

ABSTRACT

Tourism is considered an important activity for the economies of countries. This information will change the state of knowledge and help manage more efficiently, and enhance better results in the management of administration and decision-making; therefore, it is important to incorporate tourism observatories as a technological tool to measure and exploits touristic destinations in a region. Panama has had the endorsement of the UNWTO since 2018, for the installation of the 24th sustainable tourism observatory in the capital city. Before COVID-19, there are already 22 countries worldwide that visualized the need to manage updated, accurate and above all reliable information produced through the tool of a tourism conservatory; to achieve this project, the participation of the public, private and academic sectors is needed. The descriptive study will investigate how involved and informed these sectors are. The importance of this tool and if it is not considered useful for the development of new tourist destinations in Panama. The virtual survey method was used, applied through the Google Drive tool because of the pandemic and the confinement. We counted with the participation of 114 people from the higher education sector, teachers and students, public and private sector, and other associations. The results show that there is a significant interest on the part of the academia for this project to be carried out; however, there is a lack of greater participation and interest from other actors as well as a better dissemination of information and awareness to publicize the project and its importance as part of the International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatory INSTO.
